FROM THE BEGINNING…

  • Since 1985, 296 citizens like you have been trained to be CASAs for over 3500 children who were victims of child abuse and  neglect.  CASA volunteers have participated in over 4600 hours of regular and inservice training since July 2004.

  • Newport News CASA is part of the national network of 900 independent CASA programs.  There are currently over 52,000 trained advocates throughout the country.

  • Newport News CASA was the first program in the Commonwealth.  It was then that trained advocates were introduced to a diverse array of cases such as those of abuse, neglect, mental abuse, custody disputes as well as CHINS   (children in need of services) cases.

Since the beginning of FY 2005, Newport News CASA has served over 250 children in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Volunteer advocacy allow for the needs and desires of the child to be heard in the already overburdened social and legal systems.
